Carol has worked at senior management level for the past decade, her roles have included Chief Marketing Officer for the City of Glasgow and Director of Operations and Marketing for the multi award-winning Glasgow Science Centre.
Promoting the City Council's services involved campaigns targeted at the citizens of Glasgow as well as managing major city events for tourists and visitors through the development and delivery of marketing strategies in liaison with other city agencies. Carol managed the city's central marketing resource which supports every council department, covering advertising, features, copy writing and editing, market research, council identity and corporate design, strategy development and merchandising.
Appointed in 1999 to launch, promote and develop the £75m Glasgow Science Centre as a flagship visitor attraction for Scotland, Carol's marketing and communications role was extended to include all front of house and operational responsibilities. The largest millennium project in Scotland, it attracted over 400,000 visitors in its first year of trading, making it the 4th top 'paid attraction' in the country and breaking the culture of free admission in West of Scotland attractions.
Carol established Matthews Marketing in 2002 to offer her 15 years of focussed marketing experience to a broader range of clients spanning the public and private sectors. The company has developed quickly with high profile work being undertaken across Scotland and new projects being explored internationally.
